Last night
I saw a flower
an orchid or snapdragon
snout-like, full of secrets,
libidinous.

I followed
soft yet turgid ruffles
along the lower lip.

A bright
bony light
shined from behind
flooding the petals so I could see
veins underneath
shadows of inner anatomy.

Scents
from within
emanated
a kind of cold dewbreath
not sweet or fruity
subtle yet intentional
( a persuasion )

Colors pulsed and flowed through
watery hues of yellow peach and white.
There was violet-gray also.

Everything seemed
so clear—

What is Prospect Agency Looking For?

We're a young agency and that's good for you because we're definitely looking for new talent! Prospect Agency values literature that surprises, breaks conventions, transports the reader to a new world whether that be Planet X or Cleveland, but never forgets the basics of storytelling: strong characters and a gripping story. Agency specialties are romance, women's fiction, literary fiction, young adult/children's literature, and science fiction. We are also open to strong memoirs, narrative non-fiction and selective works of non-fiction from authors with strong established areas of expertise. We do not accept poetry, textbooks, plays, and screenplays.

Is There A Reading Fee?

Prospect Agency is a recognized agency of RWA and adheres to the Association of Artists' Representatives (AAR) canon of ethics. We do not charge a reading fee to review manuscripts, and do not deduct standard business expenses. Additionally, we do not provide editorial "services" or engage in practices where there may be conflicts of interest. Charges such as international mailings and manuscript photocopies are deducted only after a book is sold.

What Do I Submit?

We request a query letter, three chapters and a brief synopsis.

Your query letter should include your name, the date, contact information and a brief description of the work. Include only relevant personal information: previous publications, writing education, etc. For previously published authors, please also give a brief overview of your career thus far and your goals for the future.

We spend a lot of time with every manuscript. We consider character development, plot, and most importantly, the writing. Please make sure the work you submit is edited, proofread, and at a mature stage of development. We do not accept re-submissions. In addition, we ask that you submit only one manuscript at a time. Simultaneous submissions to this agency will be declined.

How Do I Submit?

Prospect Agency only accepts website submissions. Go to SUBMISSIONS to upload your materials. Please do not send submissions via email or mail. Email submissions will be blocked. Unsolicited paper submissions sent by traditional mail will be recycled.

If your full manuscript is requested, send the material to:

Prospect Agency
Attn: Submissions
285 Fifth Ave, PMB 445
Brooklyn, NY 11215

Please bind the manuscript pages and query letter with a rubber band. Due to increased postal regulations with regard to packages over two pounds, we ask that you not send an SASE as manuscripts will not be returned. All correspondence will be conducted via email or phone.

Literary agency recycling logo In addition to recycling and subscribing to wind/hydro-electric energy, Prospect Agency uses acid-free paper with at least 30% recycled content for all in-house printed editorial submissions.

Can I Submit More Than One Manuscript?

Please submit only one manuscript at a time. We keep centralized records of submissions so please refrain from simultaneous submissions to this agency. If a manuscript is declined, please do not re-submit the same manuscript or a manuscript that is substantially the same (to any agent).

When Will I Receive A Response?

Manuscripts submitted through the SUBMISSIONS page will typically receive a response between one week up to three months. Incoming submissions are not always processed in the order in which they are received. At times, particularly around conferences, wait times may be longer. Please make sure to provide a valid email for a response.

Please do not call or email Prospect Agency to check up on the status of your unsolicited submission. We receive a large volume of manuscripts every day. Rest assured, we are working as fast as we can to give your manuscript personal attention and get back to you as soon as possible.

Please make sure that email from prospectagency.com is not filtered or redirected to junk-mail. If you do not hear back from us after three months, you can email the following address along with the original receipt email and we will look into the delay:
